Welcome to Wallingford Presbyterian Church!

Who We Are

From 1867 to the present

The Wallingford Presbyterian Church has been and still is a strong, exuberant, vital, and integral segment of the greater downtown Charleston, SC area faith community.  We proudly boast about our identity as the only African-American Presbyterian Church in downtown Charleston. The church has welcomed, called and installed many itinerant to full-time pastors to lead God’s people in a covenant relationship with their God. The church has grown from a one room facility to a multi functioning base of operation. We are a member church of the Charleston-Atlantic Presbytery, who in July, 1998 elected its first African American executive Presbyter, Rev. Dr. Donnie R. Woods. The Presbytery 51 churches with more than 19,000 members under its leadership. The Moderator of the Session Council currently is Rev. Audrey O. Deas, a graduate of the Johnson C. Smith Seminary who is Honorably Retired. Rev. Deas leads a congregation of 107 members, seven elders, seven deacons, a board of Trustees, and an active Pastor’s Nominating Committee. The church has several ministries which are vital to our mandate to serve the Lord.  We have an active church school for every member and youth, a food pantry which provides perishable and non-perishable foods for anyone needing food, partner with the Lowcountry Food Bank, a thrift store that offers clothes, shoes and other items at little or no cost, an active 17+ year Senior’s Ministry which weekly host an ecumenical group in  Bible Study, Prayer, exercise, health education, a hot, nutritional lunch and other services and participation in community services, i.e. the Charleston Area Justice Ministry, etc.
